Dustin O'Halloran
Biography
“Piano Solos Vol 2” is the beautiful new instrumental work from Dustin O’Halloran, half of the creative mind behind Devics, one of the most unique acts to appear on the Filter US Recordings roster. Relocating from Silverlake, California, to a remote Italian village, O’Halloran has spent the past few years writing some of the best music of his life.
With both the recent Devics album and his stunning, classically-inspired piano pieces getting radio play on the likes of L.A.’s highly-influential KCRW, O’Halloran is now getting the kind of attention he’s long deserved. Winning fans around the world, his work recently seduced the renowned music supervisor Brian Reitzell, who asked O’Halloran to assist in the score of the new Sofia Coppola film, the epic historical drama, “Marie Antoinette”. Two of the compositions on this new release, as well as Opus 17 from Dustin’s first Piano Solos album, appear on the “Marie Antoinette” soundtrack.
As with his first Piano Solos release, Dustin O’Halloran reveals himself to be a
highly-individual virtuoso with his expressive, hypnotic style. “Piano Solos Vol. 2” is by turns fragile and majestic, and the effect is undeniably cinematic. This is music which evokes a wealth of imagery – falling snow, mist and rain, the wind brushing aside dry leaves, light like diamonds on the water.
Recorded in blissful isolation in Italy, the pieces collected here are a nod to the composers that have influenced and inspired him, such as Satie, Chopin, Debussy and Beethoven… yet listen close and one might also detect a post-modern beauty that shares common ground with more contemporary artists such as Sigur Ros and Rachel’s.
Dustin’s first “Piano Solos” was album was released to widespread critical acclaim in early 2005, receiving 4 star reviews in the likes of MOJO magazine.
Dustin O’Halloran’s Piano Solos Vol. 2 album is in stores October 10th on Filter US Recordings.
